The architect Luís Urbano will be the guest of this month's “Books in Chain” initiative of the Cineclube de Faro and will present the work «The Architecture of Image. Existential space in cinema”, by Juhani Pallasmaa. The session will take place on Friday, at 18 pm, at the new headquarters of the Cineclube de Faro and admission is free.

This is one of the books that are available for anyone to order at the Library of the Algarve association. The exhibition of the vast collections of the community and the dynamization of the requisitions service was one of the Cineclube's victories, with the move to a new space, located very close to the emergency entrance of the Hospital de Faro.

The work to be presented is an «analysis of 5 films by 4 different directors (Hitchcock's Rope and Rear Window, Tarkovsky's Nostalgia, Kubrick's The Shining and Profession: Reporter by Antonioni) reveals the intention of the author/architect», revealed the Film club in a press release.

“This book explores the existing relationships between cinema, art and architecture. Pallasmaa carefully examines how these filmmakers used architectural imagery to create emotional states in their films,” added the association.

It was this relationship between the work and the architecture that led the Cineclube de Faro to invite Luís Urbano, who, in addition to being an architect and professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), was also the author of articles on the intersections between architecture and cinema in Jornal de Arquitetura.

The “Books in Chain” project is financed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and has the support of the University of Algarve.
