Four farmers from Albufeira, accompanied by councilor Ana Pífaro, and technicians from the municipality's Municipal Entrepreneurship Support Service, met on Wednesday, July 12th, with Associação In Loco, with the aim of creating a new PROVE nucleus, in Albufeira.
The meeting that took place at the headquarters of Associação In Loco was facilitated by a technician from that association, with a view to making known the objectives of the PROVE project, its way of functioning, marketing and other issues related to the constitution of the new nucleus.
The program ended with a visit to the site of preparation of the baskets of the newly created nucleus of Moncarapacho, in Olhão, which works in the same way as the nucleus that is intended to be created in Albufeira.
With this initiative, the Municipality of Albufeira states that it intends to «encourage the activity of agricultural producers in the municipality, promote sustainable consumption and, at the same time, bring producers closer to consumers in the region.»
The Parish Councils also joined the project, collaborating by identifying and sensitizing farmers to the importance of creating a basket with products from traditional local agriculture.
The Autarchy plans to go further and define a set of other initiatives with a view to stimulating local production, leveraging the development of the agricultural sector in the municipality and promoting sustainable consumption in proximity.
In Albufeira there is already a PROVE nucleus, with delivery of baskets on Wednesdays, between 17:00 and 19:00, in front of the Municipal Auditorium.
How it works?
3 to 5 agricultural producers unite to form a nucleus
They meet weekly and organize the baskets according to orders and seasonal products
On the day of delivery, they prepare the baskets and distribute them in the selected location
The following week they meet again to divide the money from the previous week and resume the entire process of organizing the baskets
