São João will once again be celebrated in the old way, in Olhão, in another edition of São Mojuão, the party organized by the Youth Movement of Olhão (Moju) dedicated to this Popular Saint. The young people from Olhao want to revitalize this tradition with strong roots in the municipality and are slowly starting to excite the population.

On the nights of June 22nd and 23rd, at Largo do Grémio, behind the Sociedade Recreativa Olhanense, there will be gastronomy, where the inevitable sardines will not be lacking, as well as music, dancing, basil and the decorations required for the occasion. A party that also involves the inhabitants of that old and central area of Olhão, who will help to make and place these decorations in the square.

Although they have not yet reached the point of mobilization of the population of Olho that they want, those responsible for Moju are pleased to note the participation of those who live near the place where the party will take place.

“We have noticed great enthusiasm from the neighbors. We had not yet announced that we would repeat this year and people were already asking us about the event», he revealed to Sul Informação the leader of Moju and coordinator of this initiative Luís Tavares.

In the second edition of the party, in this format open to the entire population, the group «Bailasons» (on the 22nd, Friday) and the band «Ivete Mangalho e ass Rolinhas» (on the 23rd, Saturday) will be on stage. Admission is free and there are food and drinks for sale.

With this party, Moju intends to revive the tradition of São João in Olhão, which was once very strong in the past. The 24th of June was already the county's official holiday and, not so many years ago, the oldest neighborhoods were filled with the smell of typical delicacies of popular saints, music and entertainment.

It is this environment that the youth association wants to recover. "In the future, we want this festival to grow, in order to have greater involvement of the entire population and to be prepared by the people", illustrated Luís Tavares.

And it will not be due to the lack of willingness of young people to help that this dream will not come true. “Our young people from the Bom Sucesso project are already making lanterns and other decorations for the party,” said the Moju leader.
