JSD/Algarve defended today that the “Impulso Jovem” program will “help” unemployed young people in the Algarve and criticized what it calls a “reductive vision of the PS/Algarve”.

In a statement, JSD/Algarve affirms that it recognizes "the effort of the Government in wanting to respond to the greatest scourge that young generations are going through today in Portugal and in particular in the Algarve: Unemployment".

In the opinion of young social democrats in the Algarve, «the Impulso Jovem Program, of the Portuguese Government, is a clear response in the fight against youth unemployment effectively, because in addition to supporting the business fabric in hiring unemployed young people, it provides a necessary it helps in the sustainability of the business and reinforces internationalization».

The Algarve JSD criticizes «the reductive and simplistic way in which the current and future directors of the PS/Algarve have dealt with this issue'.

They even consider that «the statements of some of the main leaders of the Socialist Party in the Algarve reveal the lack of vision that the PS has for the region».

In the view of Jotas from the Algarve, "to affirm that the government is insensitive in this matter [unemployment] when it had the courage, against the investment cycle, to allocate a substantially high amount to fight the unemployment problem, is to evade a reality for pure partisan reasons" .

«More was expected from the party that a year ago dragged us to a request for an international financial rescue, leaving the economy in its wake with extremely high levels of unemployment, without ever having the courage to implement a transversal program to combat this drama like the one now is arrested by the current government», says JSD/Algarve.

«The PS/Algarve's vision becomes more reductive when they are mayors pointing negatively to this program. They must certainly be forgotten that the PS government's professional internship program, aimed at local authorities (the famous PEPAL) was not at all eligible for the Algarve».

Defending the «Impulso Jovem» program, the young social democrats point out that, «with the presentation of a strategy to combat youth unemployment and support SMEs, the Government presents a diversified and transversal Plan that includes measures to support hiring, professional training and entrepreneurship and investment support».

And they stress that it is “a fund of more than 344 million euros arising from the reprogramming and maximization of the European Social Fund and the ERDF. Of this amount, more than 75% is eligible for unemployed young people in the Algarve».

This Plan, continues JSD, «has the purpose of creating opportunities for young Portuguese to enter the labor market, offering them practical training in an effective work context, always with the aim of making a subsequent employment relationship effective».

The Plan "also provides for the creation of mechanisms that boost hiring, encourage young entrepreneurship, facilitate access to finance for SMEs and support their innovation and internationalization, in order to strengthen the sustainability of companies and encourage labor hiring".

«The Strategic Plan establishes, among others, the passport to qualified entrepreneurship (“Portugal Empreendedor”) – intended to cover entrepreneurship projects carried out by young people or by companies that recruit young people unemployed for more than four months and with higher qualifications. The only way to effectively combat unemployment is essentially the result of sustainable economic growth'.

The «Impulso Jovem» program is, in JSD/Algarve's opinion, «a clear answer in the fight against youth unemployment effectively, because in addition to supporting the business sector in hiring unemployed young people, it provides a necessary help in the sustainability of the business and strengthens internationalization».
