JSD/Algarve will have an early electoral Regional Congress, due to the resignation of the President of the Regional Political Commission Bruno Inácio.

The Regional Congress will be scheduled at the next meeting of the JSD/Algarve Regional Council, which will take place in Faro, on June 9th, and which will also approve the regulations, as well as schedule the election of delegates to the congress.

It will be the first time that a Regional Congress will be held, as a result of the last statutory change carried out at the National Congress of the structure in Coimbra at the end of 2010.

Bruno Inácio, president of JSD/Algarve, explained his resignation saying that "it is the consequence of having accepted to be a candidate for district secretary of the PSD/Algarve, which, not being statutorily incompatible, is, in my view, politically incompatible".

Thus, he added, "I thought it best to start this process, before the electoral act that took place for the PSD/Algarve and just a few months before the end of my term of the JSD regional political commission in the Algarve. After communicating my decision to the entire structure, directors and councils, I addressed, on the 25th of May, the resignation to the President of the Regional Plenary Board and naturally that in this framework I do not intend to re-apply for the leadership of the structure».

With regard to the holding of the Regional Congress and the end of his term, the director also stated that «this is the time to take stock of the work developed in the last 19 months of his term and the regional congress will enable this debate, as well as it will enhance an important debate around the issues that most concern young people in the region, at the same time that it will seek to point out paths for the development of the Algarve».
