The presentation of the three proposals for the “Observatory for Birds, Artificial Lagoon and Walkway at Sítio das Fontes” Ideas Contest, presented by students of the 1st Year, 1st Cycle, of the Integrated Masters in Architecture at ISMAT – Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes, de Portimão, took place on the 16th of June.

The Ideas Contest was born from a proposal from the municipal park of Sítio das Fontes (Lagoa), accepted by the professors of the Analytical Architecture discipline, architect Luís Conceição and architect Marta Sena, and aimed to requalify an area of paul where there is a small lake temporary, much sought after by shorebirds.

The assumption of the tender was based on the Park's intention to expand and make permanent the existence of a freshwater plan, thus increasing the attractiveness of the place for shorebirds.

At the same time, the intervention would be complemented by the installation of an observatory and a walkway, thus enhancing the dynamism of environmental education activities related to bird watching.

After many hours of work and several visits to the site, each of the students defended their proposal before a jury composed of two teachers of the Course, architects, Luís Conceição and Luís Durão, as well as two technicians from the Municipality of Lagoa, landscape architect José Vieira and engineer Hélder Romão.

According to the Câmara de Lagoa, the proposals of the 1st year students revealed “high boldness, functionality, good choice of materials and very good integration in the environment, showing great respect for the spirit of the place”.

As a way to encourage these students in their studies, the municipality of Lagoa offered the three works selected by the jury, the photography book “Passeio Público”, authored by Telma Veríssimo, an edition that had the support of the municipality of Lagoa.

The distinguished students were João Rego and Marco Bailhote 1st place (Ex-Aequo) and Lígia Agostinho 2nd place.
