“Sabor com Saúde” contest reveals new São Brasense cuisine and sweets creations

The Municipal Market of São Brás de Alportel hosted, n.the past Saturday, the 23rd, presentation session of the selected proposals of the “Sabor com Saúde” competition, an initiative of Câmar alocal, under the coordination of Marlene Martins, intern at the degree in Dietetics and Nutrition, from the University of Algarve, who challenged catering and confectionery establishments to create dishes and very tasty and even healthier sweets.

This initiative continues all the work developed by the São Brasense autarchy in promoting the health and well-being of the population, aiming to alert the catering and confectionery sectors to the importance of adapting the offer to recent market trends, each time more aware of health and well-being issues and the need to create healthier recipes.

The “Sabor com Saúde” contest, consisting of two categories: Healthy Meal, for recipe suggestions for the main dish; and Sweets and Healthy Desserts, dedicated to the preparation of healthy sweets or desserts.

It counted with the participation of the restaurants Iguarias da Serra, Mahraja Patiala, Chef's Table, Sabores do Campo and Vila Velha and the sweets Casa Reis, Regional Sweets by Maria Teresa Neves, Mónica Mendonça and Pastelaria Dofir.

The jury, consisting of five elements, representatives of the Dietetics and Nutrition Course of the School of Health of the University of Algarve, of the School of Hotel and Tourism of Faro, the Algarve Regional Tourism Authority, the City Council and the José Belchior Viegas School Group, analyzed the recipes proposed in the competition, valuing the recipes that favored the use of traditional products, followed the principles of the Mediterranean diet and presented a nutritional value most appropriate.

 

After a difficult choice, the jury decided:

1st place in the Healthy Meal category – “Mesa do Chef” Restaurant, located in Peral, with the proposal “Creamy Pasta with Garlic, Shrimp and Vegetables”.

1st place in the Healthy Sweets and Desserts category – Pastelaria Dofir, located on Avenida da Liberdade, in São Brás de Alportel with a suggestion of “Comb of Sweets à Dofir” composed of fruit, almonds and honey.

Within the scope of this internship project, several information and awareness actions were also carried out in recent months, aimed at different audiences, in order to better inform the community about the adoption of healthier food consumption habits.

The Municipal Market of São Brás de Alportel was the stage for several information sessions, led by Marlene Martins, who provided different healthy and economic recipes and informative newsletters on various topics in the area of ​​nutrition, such as healthy and economical food, aromatic herbs and spices , legumes, among other foods and health promotion themes.
