Multimedia: New challenges in an “always on the go” world

“In this area of ​​multimedia, 'yesterday' is already out of date”, explained Nuno Mesquita, responsible for the company Arqui300, during the first edition of the Algarve Multimedia Congress, which took place on 3 and 4 May, at Instituto Superior Dom Afonso III (INUAF) in Loulé.

Nuno Mesquita also left several advices to the students of the Multimedia degree: in order to win, it is necessary to have quality in the product offer, responsiveness, to be a specialist and at the same time transversal, to bet on the diversity of markets and to internationalize”.

With 20 years of existence, the file300 develops projects in the area of ​​3D, advertising, spots, video games, interactive applications, animation and films for different parts of the world.

Manuel Câmara, from Dreams, announced the first interactive magazine advertising, which will be published in October. “We are currently working on an ink, which will allow printing on a large scale – that is, at a lower cost . Ynvisible already sells some dynamic products, but soon we will have magazines that change color when you touch them or labels that change the image when the object is shaken”, he explained.

In an ever-changing world, the Algarve's João Rei (freelance graphic artist) suspended his B.Side clothing brand in 2008 and made the decision three years ago to move to Sagres. During the first Multimedia Congress in the region, there was also talk of cinema. To explain the theme, Natália Laranjinha “The Concept of Film Fusion”, Levi Martins on the “Main trends of contemporary Portuguese cinema”, Patrício Faísca, production director at New Light Pictures, who directed the short film “Comando”, with a budget of 25 euros, and António Pascoalinho on “Horror film: Who's afraid and why?”.

Photography was another of the areas focused on during the event. Octávio Alcântara focused on “Image: relations and resistance between photography and cinema (movement-image; time-image)”; photographer Vasco Célio spoke about his experience and presented some of his work to national and international companies; Ana Abraão, Bruno Paixão and Fernando Quintino Estevão showed how the Light Painting technique can be developed and how to innovate in photography.

The congress also featured speakers Nuno Ribeiro (director of ETIC-Algarve), Nuno Silva (Announcer of the program Rua 80, at FM street), Júlio Martin da Fonseca (actor, director and professor at INUAF/ESTAL), Júlio Heitor (Renaissance Radio announcer and creative producer), Paulo Coelho (former Multimedia student at INUAF and head of the company ISpot Multimédia), Miguel Cheta (Plastic Artist), Mónica Aldeia (Professor at INUAF).

The first Algarve Multimedia Congress was organized by UNAF and by the Research Center for Education and Training Sciences (CICEF).

According to Sandra Cruz, coordinator of the INUAF Multimedia Degree and one of the project's mentors, this congress “was one of the most significant events held in the Multimedia area, surpassing all expectations and goals”.
