During the month of June, Orquestra do Algarve performs in concerts in Spain, namely in Huelva and Ayamonte.
The Orchestra also participates in the Buffa Opera, produced by the Belgian companies Laika and Muziektheater Transparant, at the Hotel and Tourism School of Faro.
The month also marks the beginning of the Past Century Music Cycle, in Albufeira and Faro, and the concert “Música nos Monumentos”, in Castro Marim.
The musicians of Orquestra do Algarve return to Spanish lands for two concerts. On the 1st, they perform at the Gran Teatro de Huelva and, on the 2nd, at the Teatro Cardenio, in Ayamonte. Under the musical direction of Cesário Costa, OA's Main Guest Conductor, Orquestra do Algarve's program will feature “As Quatro Estações Portenhas”, a masterpiece by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, performed by accordion soloist Gonçalo Pescada.
The Belgian companies Laika and Muziektheater Transparant will revive the work “Don Giovanni” by WA Mozart, with the Portuguese version of the show being a musical adaptation for the participation of Orquestra do Algarve. The show is presented at the Hotel and Tourism School of Faro, on the 8th, 9th and 10th of June, as part of the program of the Movimenta-te network – Trajectories of Cultural Programming in Network.
Over four programs, OA will travel through the XNUMXth century, passing through the most diverse artistic currents. The Music Cycle of the Past Century starts at the Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira and the Igreja Matriz in Estoi (Faro), on June 15 and 16, respectively, where works by Federick Delius, Frank Bridge, Gabriel Fauré and Arnold Schoenberg will be celebrated, under the direction of conductor Christopher Braime.
The Orquestra do Algarve performs at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, on the 23rd, as part of the OA Soloist Cycle, accompanied by Todd Sheldrick (horn) and Andrea Lysack (cello), under the musical direction of Pedro Neves, Principal Conductor of the orchestra .
On June 24, the musicians perform at the Forte de São Sebastião, in Castro Marim, for a chamber music concert, as part of the “Música nos Monumentos” initiative. This is a co-production between OA and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, with the support of the municipality of Castro Marim.
At the end of the month, on the 29th, OA performs at the Igreja Matriz in Loulé, in yet another concert as part of the Med Festival, held in the city's historic area. Pieces by Honegger, Richard Wagner and Mozart make up the repertoire, with conductor Jan Wierzba being directed.
