The men's volleyball team of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg) ranked 4th in the final stage of the National University Championships, played at the Pavilhão de Gualtar, at the University of Minho (Braga), between 14 and 21 April.
The journey of the team led by coach Renato Silva began with the dispute in the group stage, where the AAUAlg team faced and won by 2-1 the representation of AEISEL, having then been defeated by AEFEUP by 2-0.
In the quarter-finals, he found the AE ISCTE team, beating them 2-1, qualifying for the semi-finals to face the AEFMH team. The partial 3-1 was a favorable final result for the Lisbon team.
The following day, the Algarve team played for 3rd place, having been defeated again by AEFEUP, which they had already met in the group stage.
After the 9th place last year, the balance was very good for the male representation of the University of Algarve, which achieved its best result ever in this competition.
For its part, the women's team entered the competition in the group stage, playing two games against the representations of the University of Lisbon and AAC.
With two defeats in the games, it was excluded from the second phase of the competition, being classified in 12th place in the women's competitive table.
