In May, Orquestra do Algarve celebrates some of the most beautiful musicals of all times, in the concert “A Magia do Musical” in Lagoa. The month also marks the end of the Promenade Concerts Cycle, in Faro and Lagoa, with the usual pastimes, as well as the closing of the Pedagogical Concerts, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro.
Lagoa welcomes OA for a concert that will celebrate some of the most famous musicals ever. Directed by John Avery, OA Associate Conductor, the concert “A Magia do Musical” will take place at the Municipal Auditorium of Lagoa, on May 5th. Cats, Oklahoma, Oliver, Mary Poppins, Jesus Christ Super Star e Mamma Mia are part of the repertoire of this concert.
The Orquestra do Algarve Soloist Cycle is once again returning to Albufeira and takes place, for the first time, in Lagos, on the 11th and 12th, respectively. The concert features musical direction by Cesário Costa, OA's Main Guest Conductor, and the participation of violinist Krassimir Dzhambazov.
The last Pedagogical Concerts of 2012 are scheduled for May 15th and 22nd, under the musical direction of Jan Wierzba, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro. On these dates, during the afternoon, OA continues with the pedagogical project “The School receives OA”, which comes to schools in Olhão and Albufeira.
The 2012 Promenade Concerts Cycle also comes to an end, with a concert dedicated to the orchestral “tutti”, under the musical direction of Pedro Neves, Principal Conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve.
The last concert takes place on May 20, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, and in the Municipal Auditorium of Lagoa and closes with several offers, through the realization of pastimes. The Promenade Concerts are an initiative of the OA, with the support of the Municipal Theater of Faro and the Municipality of Lagoa, and the sponsorship of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Extraordinary Sponsor of OA.
Chamber music will be heard again during the month of May. On the 25th, 26th and 27th, in São Brás de Alportel, Vila Real de Santo António, Faro, Tavira and Portimão, several OA chamber music ensembles perform in free-entry concerts.
