The seismic activity registered by the National Seismic Network, in the month of February, was characterized as low. The hypocenters of 225 local and regional earthquakes were recorded and located.
An event was felt, in the Azores archipelago, with a local magnitude (Richter) of 2.6 and a maximum intensity of II/III in the region of Furnas, island of S. Miguel.
In terms of world seismicity, 80 earthquakes with magnitude equal to or greater than 5.0 were recorded, with the greatest magnitude being the earthquake in the Vanuatu Islands region with moment magnitude (Mw) 7.1, on February 2nd at 13:34 ( UTC).
