The company «Educar a Sorrir» has already informed the Portimão Council that all teachers responsible for Extra Curricular Activities (AEC) should return tomorrow to the county's basic schools, after the municipality has guaranteed payment of the amount necessary for February salaries.

An important part of the approximately 90 professors who ensure the CEAs, such as the Sul Informação reported firsthand,  had paralyzed, last Friday, the 9th, after the Municipality of Portimão failed to pay until the 8th.

These teachers are hired by the company «Educar a Sorrir», which, in turn, has a contract with the Portimão Council, to provide this service, which includes classes in Physical Activity, English, Expressions and Music.

AEC teachers already in December had stopped for the same reason and, at the time, they had demonstrated in front of the Municipality of Portimão, being paid a few days later.

At that time, as I told the Sul Informação one of the affected teachers, a payment plan was established with the municipality, which stipulated that it would always pay until the 8th of each month and that, if this did not happen, the teachers would paralyze their activity in schools. That's what happened on Friday.

A source from the Office of the Portimão Chamber Presidency told our newspaper today that the company that provides the services of the AEC has already been guaranteed payment from February until the end of this week. Hence the decision for the teachers to go back to work, which should happen tomorrow.

O Sul Informação it found, however, that at least until early this afternoon the affected teachers had not yet been informed of developments in this case.
