This Saturday, at least 150 people will help plant 1100 trees in São Brás de Alportel, in a Carbon Neutral initiative, part of the World Tree Day celebrations program.

The “Carbon Neutral” Project intends to offset all CO2 emissions resulting from activities carried out directly by the company Solar One Ser, through the annual planting of trees.

Promoted by the consortium of companies Solar One, Janela Imobiliária, Obra d'Arte, Nata Design and ConsuExpress and with the support of the municipality of São Brás de Alportel and a group of local partner entities, the initiative will have as a meeting point the headquarters of Associação In Loco, on Avenida da Liberdade, at 9:30 am, this being the starting point for the planting action of more than 1 thousand trees, which can be shared by all participants.

The morning continues at Fonte Férrea Park with the offer of a convivial picnic and gifts to all participants, reserving for the afternoon, at 15:00 pm, a didactic session of environmental education aimed at younger audiences, between 6 and 15 years old.

All participants must register through the organization's blog at: carbonneutro2012.blogspot.com

The celebrations continue with actions to offer trees, on the mornings of the 21st and 24th, at the Municipal Market of São Brás de Alportel and from the 21st onwards at Quinta do Peral.

On World Tree Day, March 21, the City Council and the José Belchior Viegas Schools Group promote various awareness-raising actions with primary schools; and from 1 pm onwards, the program contemplates yet another high point, with the inauguration of the New Sports Space at Jardim Carrera Viegas.

On Saturday morning, the 24th, between 10:00 am and 13:00 pm, Quinta do Peral will host the Workshop “Basic Concepts for your Bonsai to survive” promoted in partnership by the Clube de Bonsais do Algarve and the City Council; and in the afternoon, between 14:30 pm and 18:30 pm, the Rota da Cortiça Association promotes a Workshop on Medicinal Plants – Potential, Applications and Products, to be held at the Arts and Crafts Center, under the guidance of specialist Fernanda Botelho.

The World Tree and Forest Day celebrations culminate with the inauguration of the new Vale de Estacas Biodiversity Station, on Sunday, 25th, at 10:00 am.

The opening ceremony is part of the usual Cycle of Nature Walks with Science Tours, in a “Biodiversity Tour”, on a 2 km circuit, signposted at Espaço Rede Natura 2000, along the Ribeira do Alportel.

A route of high landscape and biodiversity richness, whose characteristics can be found in information panels, but which in this first pedestrian walk has interpretation by the expert Colonel Rosa Pinto, Patrícia Garcia Pereira and Eva Monteiro, from the Tagis Association – Center for Conservation of Butterflies from Portugal.
