The approximately 864 athletes from 71 regional teams and the delegations participating in the Basketball Festival, in Albufeira, were received on Wednesday by the municipality, at Praça dos Pescadores, in a festive atmosphere.
After the parade through the city center, the young talents of national basketball formed a human frame, where you could read «I Love Basket», in honor of the sport's biggest youth event, which runs until the next 1st of April.
Azores, Alentejo, Algarve, Aveiro, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Madeira, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu are the 18 regions of the country represented by 71 entourages of young practitioners basketball players, who arrived in Albufeira yesterday to participate in the sport's biggest youth party.
The welcome session took place at Praça dos Pescadores, after a parade of delegations from Avenida da Liberdade, accompanied by the performance of Fanfarra dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Albufeira.
From today, the 29th, and until April 1st, the Sports Pavilions of Albufeira, of the Basic and Secondary School of Albufeira, of the Secondary School of Albufeira, of the EB 2,3 Francisco Cabrita School, of the EB 2,3 Martim School Fernandes and Francisco Neves (Imortal) will host close to 200 games and more than 1300 people, including players, judges, coaches, managers and family members.
The Finals of the different levels are scheduled for the last day, from 9:00 am, at the Sports Pavilion of the Basic and Secondary School, and from 9:30 am, at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion, where the Closing Ceremony and the Awards Ceremony will also take place. , by 12:30.
In addition to the prizes to be awarded to the top three in each competition, there will also be the Prize Fair Play, aimed at promoting healthy competition, and the Solidarity Prize, which provides for the donation of one euro by all participants.
The funds raised will revert to Albufeira's Voluntary Firefighters.
Alongside the games, various activities are being carried out, such as the Jamboree Mini-Basketball, with children between 7 and 11 years old, or the Live Bask, where all those present will be invited to practice the sport in 16 outdoor fields created for the purpose.
The Basketball Festival is an initiative organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation, in partnership with the Municipality of Albufeira and with the support of Imortal DC, Albufeira Basketball Club and the Algarve Basketball Association.
The event also counts with the collaboration of other district basketball associations across the country.
