The Chamber of Lagos approved, at its most recent meeting, the introduction of changes to the tariff for water supply, sanitation and urban solid waste, which came into force last January.

The services of the City Council received about 20 complaints under the new water, sanitation and solid waste tariff, which came into force in January this year, a situation that led the municipality to recognize its reasonableness and immediately proceed with a review of the document.

The tariff, as designed and approved, did not provide for a differentiated framework for parish councils or for situations related to the cancellation of supply contracts for garages or for the disconnection of meters.

Thus, and after analysis and consideration of the municipal services, the following amendments were approved in RC:

1) Parish Councils – It was decided to apply to Parish Councils an identical tariff assigned to IPSS, Public Schools, Clubs and Non-Profit Associations;

2) Cancellation of supply contracts for garages - It was approved the possibility of consumers who own garages, who have an active contract on other fractions, and use them as a complement to housing, to be excluded from sanitation and solid urban waste tariffs, as these consumers already support such tariffs in the main contracts , whether domestic or non-domestic.

3) Shutdown of counters – In this case, consumers are subject to payment for the restoration of water, when the interruption is made at their request, which includes not only the amount due for the installation of the meter €45,40 (forty-five euros and forty cents ), but also 12 months of availability tariffs €126,00 (one hundred and twenty six euros), as a form of reimbursement for the charges borne by the Municipality for the provision of the respective services, amounting to €171,40 (one hundred and seventy-one euros and forty cents).
