The new presidency of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), chaired by David Santos, met this Friday with the executive of the Alcoutim Chamber, in a meeting that served for Mayor Francisco Amaral to underline the strangulation of that council in view of the territorial planning instruments, particularly the removal of the Algarve from Objective 1 of the European Union, thus being considered a «rich region».

"We are excluding one of the poorest municipalities in the country, as well as three quarters of a region, the Algarve mountains, which suffers from many needs", said the mayor, explaining that this is an unfair decision that he hopes to see reversed in the next table. from 2014 to 2020.

According to Francisco Amaral, the fight against desertification and depopulation has been blocked by these instruments, which have already made large investments in the area of tourism and hotels unfeasible.

The executive of the Municipality of Alcoutim now hopes that the new CCDR Algarve presidency will embrace other projects under development in the municipality, namely in the areas of renewable energies and tourist use of the Guadiana river. “I believe that with this new administration we will be able to resolve the blockades that have been preventing the realization of these projects”, concluded Francisco Amaral.
