Five institutional researchers among future scientific leaders

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute, an organization american philanthropic, recently announced its list of 28 new researchers that it considers to become the future scientific leaders in their fields, in their countries within a period of ten years.

Chosen from among 760 candidates, there are five researchers working in Portuguese institutions, four of them Portuguese, namely: Miguel Godinho Ferreira e Karina Xavier of the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC), Luisa Figueiredo of the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM), and Rui Costa e Megan Carey both from the Champalimaud Foundation.

In all, these scientists will receive funds from that institution worth 2,5 million euros to fund their research in the areas of aging and chromosomal stability, communication between bacteria, parasitology, neuroscience and structural protein biochemistry (in the same order as the names of the researchers).
