Fifteen photographers from the Algarve or residents of the region accepted the challenge of Father Carlos Aquino, parish priest of the Cathedral of Silves, to portray the various stations along the path that Jesus Christ took to Calvary. From Sunday 26 February, his works can be seen in the Cathedral of Silves, in the exhibition «Via Sacra».

Following the descriptions of the Gospel of St. Luke, artists such as Adriano Costa, André Bôto, Carlos Rocha, Carlos Sousa, Francisco Castelo, José Manuel Andrade, Miguel Veterano, Nuno Garção, Samuel Mendonça, Sofia Guerreiro, Sonya, Tiago Grosso, Vasco Célio , Vera Soares and Vitor Azevedo, present their own interpretations and visions of the various moments that marked this path.

From the moments lived by Jesus and His Disciples on the Mount of Olives, through the judgment of Pilate or the meeting with Mary, His Mother, ending with His burial and Resurrection, seen in the meeting with the disciples at Emmaus, all these moments will be worked on by the photographers, being possible to have different perspectives and representations of these moments, some of them passing through the representation of nature, or the portrait.

This exhibition will also be used by the faithful of the parish community of Silves for their meditations during Lent and will remain accessible to the public visiting the Cathedral.

This is another initiative integrated in the actions foreseen in the scope of the cultural program of this temple, which since 2010 has been part of the “Route of Portuguese Cathedrals”.
