The council of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of Vila Real de Santo António today condemned, in a statement, the attitude of the local PCP which, this Monday, accused the municipality of Vila Real of owing 4,8 million euros to Águas do Algarve, “deliberately omitting, in its biased analysis, the situation of the remaining 15 municipalities in the region”.

The Social Democrats even consider that «in fact, this is far from being an exclusive situation of the municipality of Vila Real, which does not even figure as one of the worst cases in the region».

"Furthermore, the PCP omits that debt settlement agreements are in force and prefers not to talk about the scenario of falling revenues that most municipalities are facing," notes António Cabrita, president of the PSD council of Vila Real de Santo António.

The PSD also considers it “paradoxical” that the PCP speaks of the need to pay off debts when, in the Municipal Assembly, “it voted against the implementation of a Financial Balance Plan to restore the municipality's accounts which, in three months, saved more than one million euros'.

Likewise, the PSD/VRSA considers “unusual the fact that the PCP censors the social values of the municipality of Vilarreal, taking into account the difficulties that many families face at the moment we are going through”.

«Unlike the PCP, which limits itself to criticism, the executive led by Luís Gomes reacts to challenges and is attentive to reality», concludes António Cabrita.
