On Wednesday, at 11 am, the analogue television transmitter in Monsanto and the relays in Areeiro, Barcarena, Caparica, Carvalhal, Cheleiros, Estoril, Graça, Montemor-o-Novo, Odivelas, Sintra, Malveira, Sobral will be switched off from Monte Agraço, Coruche and Cabeção.

This disconnection covers two million people in the districts of Évora, Lisbon, Setubal, Santarém and Setúbal and is the biggest blackout expected for the first phase of migration to DTT, which covers the entire coastal strip of mainland Portugal.

ANACOM once again advises all viewers who have not yet taken steps to migrate to check in advance whether they are in a terrestrial coverage area or in a digital coverage area. This verification can be done through the toll-free 800 200 838 or the website www.tdt.telecom.pt.

Information collected from the population at the beginning of the month showed that around 70% of viewers had already migrated, and around 20% planned to do so in time for the switch-off. Sales of MPEG 4 compliant decoders and television sets increased substantially at the end of last year.

In total, more than 800 thousand televisions adapted for DTT and more than 420 decoders were sold. Of the TVs sold, half will have been bought by people who needed to switch to DTT.

Even so, and considering the universe of people covered by Wednesday's disconnection, around two million, ANACOM warns of the need for people to prepare in time for DTT, thus reducing the risks of being temporarily without television.

In some cases it may be necessary to reorient the antennas, and some people may need to resort to technical services to do so, so if they leave it to the last moment, they may not watch television.

The switch off of Monsanto's analogue transmitter is the third of the first phase of the analogue switch off, after Palmela and Fóia (Monchique). In total, these three disconnections cover close to 3 million people.

The digital television signal covers 100% of the national territory since December 2010.
