This Christmas, the Municipal Council of Tavira allocates 400 baskets to needy families in the municipality, «as a way of minimizing the economic difficulties experienced and providing a decent Christmas dinner».

"The offer consists of the allocation of essential foodstuffs that will comfort the homes of these families", stresses the municipality in a statement.

Despite the current situation in the country, the Municipality of Tavira has increased the number of baskets allocated compared to the last two years.

In 2009, 100 hampers were delivered and last year 250, and this year another 150 families are benefited.

By adopting this measure, the city council claims to continue «to bet on a social policy in favor of those who most need it, contributing to the improvement of their quality of life, not only during this festive season, but throughout the year».

The Tavirense autarchy claims that its intention is “to help the most disadvantaged, actively collaborating in the reduction of social and economic asymmetries”.
