Between January and July, the Algarve gained around 700 new overnight stays, of which nearly 650 were from foreign tourists (400 from the United Kingdom).

These are data from the bulletin «Algarve: tourism situation» for the month of July, edited by the Multidisciplinary Investment and Development Team of Tourism of the Algarve and which brings together the main performance indicators of the sector in the region.

Also according to the same data, the number of guests in July, in hotels in the Algarve, increased 8,1 percent compared to the previous year, while the average stay in hotel establishments was 5,2 nights, well above the national average , which stayed, in the same period, for 3,2 nights.

The bulletin's data also reveals that Algarve hotels registered, in July, around 100,7 million euros of total income, which represented an increase of 11,2 percent, in relation to the same period of 2010.

The golf courses, in turn, reached 65.644 rounds (+1,2 percent).

In the month of July, the Airport of Faro handled 798.390 passengers. The accumulated variation since January in relation to the same period of the previous year is 9,4 percent, according to the same data.

The German market (-12,2%) and the Irish market (-4,7%) were the only ones that registered decreases in the movement of passengers, with all the other main markets of origin having positive year-on-year variations. Spanish market and the Dutch market with an increase of 14,2% and 12,7% respectively. 

Following the trend of the past months, Ryanair, Easyjet and Monarch represented more than half of the total movements at the Airport of Faro in the month of July (53,2%). 

Operator Jet2.com stood out from the rest of the Top 10 companies with a positive year-on-year change of 52,4%. 

In July 2011, hotel establishments in the Algarve had 2,25 million overnight stays, a figure that is equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 9,5%. At national level, overnight stays in the Algarve represented 44,4% of the total in the same month.

Nationally, hotel establishments registered 5,1 million overnight stays, corresponding to a year-on-year increase of 10,0%. 

All the main inbound markets, with the exception of Germany (-0,3%) had positive year-on-year variations, with Spain (31,1%) and the United Kingdom (19,4%) being worthy of mention. 

In July, hotel establishments in the Algarve recorded around 100,7 million euros of total income (of which 75,8 million were from the room), corresponding to a year-on-year increase of 11,2%. 

At national level, 240,8 million euros of total revenue and 172,8 million euros of revenue from accommodation in hotel establishments were accounted for, corresponding to year-on-year increases of 11,1% and 12,5%, respectively.
