International School Library Day is celebrated each year on the fourth Monday of October. At national level, this date was celebrated for the first time on October 18, 1999. This year, and as has been the custom, Lagos also marks this occasion.

The commemoration of the International Day of School Libraries has as its main objective the celebration of School Libraries and their valorization as spaces of information and knowledge in the education of children and young people.

To mark this occasion, which this year will take place on October 24th, the Câmara de Lagos, through its Municipal Library, promotes the visit of the writer Rita Sobral to school libraries, as a way to provide students with a moment of contact with writers , a complement considered necessary to better captivate and motivate students to visit and use the Libraries.

The meetings take place between the 24th and the 28th in the following schools: EB1 Ameijeira (Day 24); EB1 Santa Maria (Day 25); EB1 No. 3 (Day 26 – morning) | EB1 N.º 1 (Day 26 – afternoon) and EB1 Odiáxere (Day 28 – morning) | EB1 Chinicato (Day 28 – afternoon).

Rita Sobral was born in Mozambique in 1972 and returned to Portugal, her parents' homeland, two years later. He lives most of his life in Lisbon, where he graduated in Agricultural Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon in 1998.

“Conversas do Céu e da Terra” was released in 2008 and with it an innovative style of storytelling art. “Stories with Life”, as the author calls them, combines the tale of the story with its illustration in real time, captivating children to read, transporting them to the fantastic world of “make believe”.

In November 2009 she presented the book “O Doutor Megalhães”, in which the author satirizes the arrival in schools of the new pedagogical instrument, the Magalhães computer.

It is also following this path that the writer discovers and introduces new talents, mainly in the field of illustration, inviting her illustrator Cátia Viegas who, in real time, illustrates the story, encouraging children to reveal their artistic abilities.
