Turismo do Algarve will welcome, on the 27th of September, World Tourism Day, tourists arriving at the International Airport of Faro and to the visitors of the 22 tourist information offices distributed throughout the region with the offer of souvenirs with the «Algarve» brand.

At the same time, a competition will take place on the official Facebook page, VisitAlgarve, which will reward the best participations of the Algarve's friends with hotel stays.

«Tourism – Linking Cultures» is this year the theme that presides over the official commemorations of the «World Tourism Day», date established in 1980 by the World Tourism Organization.

In his message on this world day, António Pina, president of the Algarve Regional Tourism Authority, stresses that «tourism allows for closer human relations between peoples of different cultures, the exchange of ideas and the exchange of experiences, approximation of peoples in the so-called global village, the valorization of communication and other values intrinsic to the human condition, the discovery of the history of each country as part of universal history».

«This Meeting of Cultures promotes the acceptance of difference by valuing the identity of each tourist who visits us and who discovers in the destination elements with which he also identifies, which encourage the understanding of other realities, greater tolerance and respect for heritage historical, cultural, social and intellectual of each country», adds António Pina.

“According to the OMT, over 940 million people traveled abroad last year looking for new experiences, new knowledge based on the most different motivations. This is why tourism must be seen as fundamental not only for the economic growth of nations, but also for the strengthening of relations between peoples through direct contact”, concludes the president of ERTA.
