All cities and towns with the “Cittaslow” brand, worldwide, celebrate on September 25, for the second consecutive year, the Sunday Slow, on what will be a Sunday dedicated to the rediscovery of traditions, values, conviviality and life with quality savored over time.

Launched by the World Movement cittaSlow, to which the municipality of São Brás de Alportel joined in 2006, “the initiative Sunday Slow intends to stop the clock and, at least for a Sunday, take people to rediscover their cities and towns, nature, heritage, traditions, gastronomy aromas, the pleasure of a meal in good company and a savored day with time”, explained the municipality in a press release.

The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel joins the initiative and challenges the people of São Brás to rest from the “stress” and enjoy, in a special way, this Sunday. After an adventurous afternoon, on a Journey to the Time of the Romans, on the 24th, outside the Explanatory and Reception Center of Calçadinha, Sunday morning is invigorating… in the kitchen.

The program of this Sunday Slow starts at Quinta do Peral, with the workshop “Smells and flavors of São Brás de Alportel”, with meeting point at 10 am. The objective is, for a morning to learn and enjoy, ending the initiative with a delicious lunch.

The gastronomic morning is the result of a collaboration of the Slowfood Algarve movement and has the presence of chef Augusto Silva, responsible for the Xarme Restaurant.

“After the first moment of the workshop, to learn the secrets of the Algarve's herb bonbons and citrus scents, the participants, led by chef Agusto Lima, will learn how to prepare the delicacies that will go to the lunch table, made from the most traditional ingredients: a tasty migas and vegetable pie, accompanied by a salad of oranges with figs, almonds and mint and aubergine and courgette caviar… The meal also includes sauteed potatoes with fennel, roasted pumpkin with cinnamon and roasted oranges with honey and olive oil”, the municipality reveals in a press release.

For more information about participating in this workshop, interested parties should contact Quinta do Peral, at 289845420 or by email [email protected].

The program continues with activities at the São Brasense Municipal Market, between 14 pm and 17 pm, for a journey back in time to the rediscovery of the Mercado das Trocas. To participate in this original initiative, contact the organization by e-mail [email protected] or at 289840019.

At the end of the afternoon, there will be a peaceful walk to discover the “Heritage and Urban Landscape”, starting at 16 pm at the Explanatory and Reception Center of Calçadinha (in Rua do Matadouro, next to the Descobertas Municipal Swimming Pools), in an initiative which integrates the European Heritage Days.

On September 25, all municipal cultural spaces open their doors and invite you to take a closer look at the various exhibitions open to the public: the Center for Arts and Crafts, where the painting exhibition “Loucura” by Octávio is on display Lourenço; the Explanatory and Welcome Center of Calçadinha, where you can visit the new exhibition “Fragments of the History of São Brás de Alportel”, which takes the visitor through history with ceramics as a guide; the Alportel Museological Center, where the exhibition “Tapestry of Modern Art”, by Gudrun Robinson; the Municipal Gallery that presents Elsie Guerreiro's first solo exhibition “Da Escuridão… we saw the light”.
