October marks the start of the 10th Season of the Orquestra do Algarve, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, as well as its participation in the program of the Celebrations of the 5th of October at the Palácio de Belém, in Lisbon.

In addition to these, OA will be present in Portimão and Albufeira, in “Concerts for Families”, and in Lagoa and at the University of Algarve, as part of the cycle “Solistas da OA”.

Another highlight was the closing concert of the cycle “Música nos Monumentos”, at the Igreja Matriz in Paderne.

It's already next week, on October 4th, that Orquestra do Algarve starts the 2011/2012 season.

At the Cine-Teatro Louletano and under the musical direction of Cesário Costa, the main Guest Conductor of the formation, the musicians will perform works by Nuno Côrte-Real, Richard Strauss and Georges Bizet.

Pedro Ribeiro, 1st Oboe of the Gulbenkian Orchestra, will accompany the OA.

This concert has the support of Cine-Teatro Louletano and the sponsorship of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Extraordinary Sponsor of OA.

With the cycle “Concerts for Families”, OA proposes to take music to families in a guided way, through a concert accompanied by an explanatory commentary by the musicologist Vanda de Sá.

The first two, to be held at the Municipal Auditoriums of Portimão and Albufeira, on October 15th and 16th, respectively, are directed by John Avery, OA's associate conductor, this season.

On the 21st and 26th, at the Auditório Municipal de Lagoa and the University of Algarve, respectively, some musicians from OA will perform as soloists, thus having the opportunity to promote their artistic value.

The program entirely dedicated to Vivaldi is performed by violinists Laurentiu Simões, Emil Chitakov, Helena Duarte and Krassimir Dzahambazov, who will simultaneously have the role of conductor in this concert.

Directed by its principal conductor Pedro Neves, OA will be on the last weekend of the month, on the 29th and 30th, at Igreja do Carmo de Tavira and Igreja Matriz de Paderne, respectively.

In Paderne, the public will attend the closing of the cycle “Música nos Monumentos”, a co-production between OA and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, with Caixa Geral de Depósitos as Extraordinary Sponsor and Crédito Agrícola and STAP – Reparação , Consolidation and Modification of Structures, SA as Support.
