The first edition of the Festa da Via Algarviana will take place on 15 and 16 October, in the village of Furnazinhas, in the municipality of Castro Marim, with a weekend full of cultural and recreational activities.

This initiative arises from the need to involve the inland villages and their population in Via Algarviana activities, fostering a greater connection between the community and the project. One of the goals is also "to help local infrastructure, accommodation, cafes, restaurants, commerce, promoting the authenticity of the people and traditions of the Algarve interior", says the association Almargem in a press release.

Therefore, various activities will be organized such as interpretive walking routes, mountain biking routes, Environmental Education activities for the youngest, arts and crafts promoted by the village artisans, a convivial dinner, a get-together.

The initiative is sponsored by the municipality of Castro Marim, with the support of Associação Odiana, Odeleite Parish Council, Acerto Digital, Continente, Beira Vicente (Fonte Fraga), Hotel Guerreiros do Rio and Frutas Guerreiro.

The Via Algarviana II project has 1,4 million euros and benefits from the co-financing of 950 euros from the PO Algarve 21, the European funds of the QREN. The national contribution will be 512 thousand euros shared by Almargem, local authorities, ATA and ERTA.

The Via Algarviana is a long-distance pedestrian route (300 kilometers), classified as Grande Rota (GR13). It starts in Alcoutim, next to the Guadiana River, and ends at Cape São Vicente, in Vila do Bispo, passing through the mountains of Caldeirão and Monchique. It crosses forested areas and villages in the interior of the Algarve, where many of the rural traditions that the project intends to make known still persist.
