Loulé City Council will soon start with the project to standardize tourist and business information in the municipality, in an initiative that aims, at the same time, to legalize all advertising and directional signage.

The guidelines on which this action is based are the reinforcement of the indicative signs of the locations, directional, at the beginning and at the end, the legalization of the directional signage boards of establishments and companies, according to a uniform model for the entire municipality, and the removal of all advertising and signage not legalized.

Thus, those interested in legalizing their directional signage must submit an application for legalization of advertising to the Municipality of Loulé, which will be analyzed by the services and granted as long as there is availability in the desired location and meets the requirements.

“Each entity may legalize up to 3 directional signage signs, but positioned within a radius of less than 2 kilometers from the advertised establishment. The maximum number of signs on each support is 5, with mandatory requirements for directional signage signs being established”, explained Loulé City Council in a press release.

For license plates, the Regulation and Table of Fees and Municipal Licenses of the Municipality of Loulé (Notice No. 22742/2009, DR 2ª Série, No. 243, of 17/12/2009) apply. Applicants must mention in their respective applications, in addition to the usual elements, the georeferencing coordinates and attach the documentation indicated in the application form.

Any signpost can only be placed after approval and under the coordination of the local authority's services. According to municipal officials, “the image of the municipality of Loulé needs to be improved, so that it provides better quality of life for residents and is more attractive for tourism. The existing signage on the road network does not currently contribute to an effective and useful information for visitors, having, in some places, an excessive density, damaging the tourist image of the region. Clear and objective information on the location of establishments is essential to boost economic activity”.
