“Saúde em Dia: Nutrition and Cardiovascular Diseases” will be the theme of the information session promoted by Espaço Saúde 360º Algarve on September 23, at 10:30 am, in partnership with the Recreate in Community Project – Intergenerational and Community Space, former day center of Parish of Cachopo, Municipality of Tavira.
The initiative is open to the general public and aims to raise awareness of the relationship between cardiovascular diseases, nutrition and a balanced diet.
In a note, Espaço Saúde warns that cardiovascular diseases are currently one of the main causes of death in Portugal, «responsible for more than a third of total mortality and a risk factor for the development of serious complications by Covid-19. ».
Among the topics covered, the risk factors for the onset of cardiovascular diseases (imbalanced diet, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, stress, alcohol and tobacco) stand out, as well as suggestions on how to implement healthy and preventive lifestyle habits.
The session is promoted in partnership with the Recriar em Comunidade Project – Intergenerational and Community Space of Cachopo.
“Food is one of the main modifiable risk factors associated with an increase in cardiovascular disease. A diet that promotes cardiovascular health aims at a change in eating habits, in which the predominance of foods of animal origin is replaced by the predominance of foods of plant origin. It also drives the reduction of processed foods, sugar and saturated fats. It promotes increased consumption of vegetables, whole grains and the use of olive oil. It is essential to diversify and balance our diet”, says Sílvia Calero, nutritionist for the Espaço Saúde 360º Algarve project.
The session “Saúde em Dia: Nutrition and Cardiovascular Diseases” is part of a set of informative sessions that aim to enlighten the Algarve population on important health issues.
This project aims to favor the behavioral determinants inherent to a healthy lifestyle, with a final assessment of the impact of the intervention on the quality of life and well-being of each user, through an integrated and citizen-centered approach based on partnerships and local collaborations, such as municipalities, parishes, health units, IPSS, patient associations, and other public and private entities in the social and health area.
