Lagoa demystified gender stereotypes on Equality Day

Singer Ana Bacalhau was the special guest

The Câmara de Lagoa teamed up with singer Ana Bacalhau to demystify gender stereotypes among the municipality's youngest population, on the Municipal Day for Equality, which was celebrated on 24 October.

The day's program included «actions that aimed to promote, raise awareness and explore, among younger people, the different contexts of life, where gender discrimination occurs, namely in the conciliation between personal, family and professional life, in the contexts of power and decision-making and in cases of violence and harassment», according to the municipality of Lagos.

The 9th grade and secondary students from the Rio Arade and Padre António Martins de Oliveira Schools Grouping of the public schools and the private school Nobel Internacional School, based in the municipality, attended the presentation of the project “Desafiar Esteretipos” with the special participation of the singer Ana Cod.

«Through a book, a theatrical performance and themes set to music by the singer, the young people reflected and debated on various concepts associated with the theme of Equality: gender stereotypes, uses of time, gender roles, androcentrism, empowerment, empowerment, harassment sexual, among others», revealed the Câmara de Lagoa, which promoted the session.

This initiative had the participation of more than 500 students from the municipality, «strengthening the commitment of the municipality, as an educating and inclusive city».

The books of the project “Desafiar Steretipos” will be available in school libraries, “so that the message can be disseminated and the proposed activities carried out in a school context”.

Copies were also available at the Municipal Library of Lagoa, «with the aim of raising awareness in the community in general about the problem».
