Farense coach wants organization, ambition, belief and intensity against Benfica

Game will be played this Saturday

The Farense coach today promised a team with organization, ambition, belief and intensity for Saturday's reception, at the Algarve Stadium, against Benfica, in a game of the 10th round of the I Football League.

“[The game] was prepared in the same way, with a lot of organisation, knowing how we have to defend, knowing how we have to attack, where we can harm [Benfica], knowing that against these teams it is logical that it is more difficult to find problems. We have things absolutely well defined in what we have to exploit and what we have to counter, knowing the strengths and the different attacking dynamics that this Benfica is”, said Tozé Marreco, in a press conference.

The coach asked his team to show ambition, belief and intensity in the duels that this type of game entails, “combined with the necessary organization”.

“With very few errors, knowing that errors in this type of game will be paid dearly”, he added, remembering that, in the defeat (2-0) of the previous round against Sporting de Braga, the team sinned “very close to half-time” and that “cannot happen again”.

The Algarve team's expectations, according to Tozé Marreco, are for “a game with a very high level of difficulty”, in which the motivation will have to be the same as against Sanjoanense, for the Portuguese Cup, or against Estoril Praia, for the championship, in which they occupy 18th and last place.

“We are in an extremely delicate position, we know that. We reversed a cycle of defeats, with great merit, with the draw in Aves [against AVS] and then with the victory at home against Estoril. We showed that we are absolutely alive in the championship”, he highlighted.

Against the Minho team, the Farense coach, who succeeded José Mota at the end of September, acknowledged that there was a lack of attacking boldness, which he explained by the many injuries that have affected the team in recent weeks, but he stressed that things will change in the future.

“We started with the foundations of the house, organizing a series of things that we had to change and now, in the next games, we will put the other things into practice, because we have to grow in other aspects and I have no doubt that we will be able to do so. We are last at the moment, we will certainly not be last at the end of the championship”, he stated.

Regarding the Estádio Algarve, the venue that the Faroese club has been using since this season to host only the so-called 'big three', Tozé Marreco acknowledged that, from a sporting perspective, he would prefer to face the 'encarnados' at the Estádio de São Luís, but he understands the choice made by the SAD and president João Rodrigues due to the financial aspect.

“São Luís will be our strength. I have no doubt about that, that the home games will be absolutely decisive for us and that we will have extra strength and push. If you ask me if in sporting terms I would prefer to play at São Luís? That is undeniable. I am not lying, that is undeniable. Do I understand the choice? Clearly I do”, he said.

Farense, 18th and last placed, with four points, and Benfica, third, with 19, face each other on Saturday, at 18:00, at Estádio Algarve, with Cláudio Pereira, from the Aveiro association, as the referee.
