Bringing hip hop and Luís Vaz de Camões together may not seem so obvious at first glance. The Associação Artes Performativas de Beja – Arte Pública did it and now the result will be revealed on 20 November at the Fortaleza de Sagres.
The performance “Camões is a rap poet”, aimed at students from the school community, has sessions scheduled for 9:30 am and 11:00 am.
This is an initiative that aims to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the birth of the poet Luís Vaz de Camões.
«”Camões is a rap poet” is a performative and musical event, based on an innovative concept, which brings the lyrics of the great poet closer to our contemporary experience, through the rhythms of rap and hip hop, reconciling the public with the mastery of the Portuguese language», says the organization.
On the 15th, the Sagres Fortress will also present an environmental awareness project related to the camarinha plant.
This is a project organized by MARE – Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences -, in which a set of drawings made by students who participated in study visits to Cabo de São Vicente will be presented, during the month of June, within the scope of the educational project Emc2 – 'Exploring Matos de Camarinha da Costa'.
This project raises awareness about the blueberry, a threatened plant of high conservation value, prone to extinction in some Atlantic coastal areas of the Iberian Peninsula, whose female plants have small, edible white fruits. The blueberry plant, found in the interior of the Fortress, in the vegetation that grows between rocks, is a natural treasure, given that its geographical distribution is restricted to the Iberian Atlantic coast, between Gibraltar and Finisterre, and is present in some Azorean islands (Iberian endemism) and the uniqueness of having white or pinkish fruits.
The team organizing the study visits to Sagres was composed of M. Alexandra Abreu Lima (MARE-NOVA/ARNET and INIAV, IP) and Ana Carla Cabrita (Walkin'Sagres). The works can be seen in the multipurpose room of the Sagres Fortress, every day, until December 6th.
On the 16th, the Meeting “Women and Freedom – Black female voices in artistic resistance” will take place, from 15:00 pm to 18:00 pm.
It will be an initiative organized by the Fortaleza de Sagres, which proposes a dialogue between past and present.
The conversation will be moderated by Paula Cardoso, founder of the digital community Afrolink. It will feature the participation of Raquel Lima, poet, art educator, essayist, researcher and transdisciplinary artist; Patrícia Moreira, author, and the duo Isabél Zuaa and Cleo Diára, multidisciplinary artists who are part of the collective Aurora Negra.
