The guided walking tour “Trilho da Ribeira d'Alte XL” will take place on the 17th of November and will invite you to discover the geosite of Queda do Vigário.
The tour combines “nature, urban art and geology”, says the organization, run by the Cândido Guerreiro Professional School.
During the initiative it will be possible to “observe numerous pieces of evidence of the Volcano-Sedimentary Complex that bear witness to the first phase of the formation of a rift, 198 million years ago, which led to the opening of an arm of the sea that now corresponds to the Atlantic Ocean”.
The Vigário Falls, also known as the Alte Waterfall, is a 24-meter-high waterfall.
This waterfall is fed by groundwater that emerges to the surface in the Alte springs, upstream, and which form part of the Querença-Silves aquifer system (the largest freshwater reservoir in the Algarve).
The route is circular and is approximately 9 kilometers long.
