On November 12th, the Lagoa Municipal Library will host an event from the educational project “O Arco da Íris”, which aims to foster a taste for reading and creativity, raising awareness among young people about the importance of sustainability, one of the central themes of the project.
The project, which has already reached more than 3000 children in the Algarve and Alentejo, is now being promoted among students at the EB1/JI de Lagoa School, on the 12th, between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm, with the support of the CCDR Algarve Culture Unit, the IPDJ, Águas do Algarve and the Portuguese Environment Agency.
Held in collaboration with the municipality of Lagoa, the event highlights the importance of creating synergies that enhance the educational and personal development of children, preparing them for the challenges they face, including environmental challenges.
This action will also continue the production of a short film, in video case format, supported by CCDR Algarve.
This audiovisual project aims to “document the activities, distinguish the merit of this type of initiatives, and
highlight the relevance of Education for Sustainability, reinforcing the importance of continuous work in this area”, says the organization.
“By capturing moments of learning and growth, it aims to inspire and educate, highlighting the importance of projects that promote the integral development of children,” they continue.
Gabriela Pacheco, author of the literary work and pedagogical tool «O Arco da Íris» will share, between games, her passion for books and writing.
“It is a privilege to be able to inspire children to explore the world of reading and imagination,” said Pacheco, also highlighting the importance of institutional support. “The commitment of municipalities to education and culture is vital. Together, we cultivate a more conscious and responsible generation,” he said.
During the event, children will have the opportunity to participate in several surprise activities and a Q&A session with the author. The activities are designed to stimulate critical thinking and curiosity, encouraging young people to reflect on their role in building a more sustainable world.
Professor André Lima, one of the project coordinators, also states that “this type of action is essential to bring children closer to books and the themes that shape our future”.
“The library is a space for discovery and learning, and events like this reinforce its educational and cultural mission.”
