The new Board of Directors (CA) of the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS), led by Tiago Botelho, held its first regular meeting outside the headquarters this Tuesday, November 5th, in this case at the Monchique Health Center.
In a press release, the ULS says that this decision signals the “central importance of the role of primary health care in the process of care integration advocated by the ULS model and also the new team’s concern to be close to health professionals and local elected officials”.
In this sense, President Tiago Botelho invited Paulo Alves, Mayor of Monchique, to be present at the meeting, who was represented by Councilor Helena Martiniano and Chief of Staff Vítor Santos, who participated in the first CA meeting, as well as the doctors and the nurse responsible for the UCSP of Monchique.
Furthermore, around two hundred professionals were present at the two presentation sessions of the Board of Directors, which took place yesterday in the auditoriums at the Hospitals of Faro and Portimão.
“The creation of the ULS is a care integration project, which we consider vital to more effectively fulfill the mission we have in hand: preventing disease and treating those who need it”, stressed Tiago Botelho.
The CA president also highlighted that they are committed to providing better working conditions for professionals and are committed to ensuring that the population trusts the institution and its hospitals, highlighting the ambition of building the new central hospital.
Rubina Correia also confirmed the commitment to improving the working conditions of professionals. The clinical director for the primary health care area reinforced the importance of all professionals in the machinery of the largest health institution in the South, and thanked the hospital care professionals who provided all the support in the integration and who allowed the services to continue.
Highlighting the need to join forces, the clinical director for hospital healthcare Ana Paula Fidalgo made a commitment to support each area and promote a work environment that values excellence, respect and collaboration.
“We will strengthen our mission of caring and serving with a constant focus on quality and humanization. Caring requires competence, but it also requires empathy and respect,” he said.
Director nurse Anabela Simões stressed that she takes on this new role with a “sense of responsibility and of adding value, of making each part a whole in the interest of our care for users, without forgetting, however, caring for those who care”.
Gonçalves Júnior highlighted his professional career in the financial area and his return to the health area, where he was managing director and later president at the District Hospital of Faro, showing availability to listen to the needs of ULS Algarve professionals.
Executive director Ana Marreiros, whose professional career is linked to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Algarve, promises to give the greatest possible support to the decision, recalling that «the patient is not a pure management number and care must be taken in optimizing procedures».
