The importance of healthy snacks and language in childhood are two of the topics that will be addressed in the cycle “Educating for a better future”, which will take place until the end of the month at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, in Portimão.
The initiatives are free to participate in and “aim to provide useful intervention tools to parents and guardians of children and young people from pre-school to the 3rd cycle, as well as to specialized technicians and teachers, through the debate of strategies, positive practices and clarification of doubts, in favor of educational success”, according to Portimão City Council.
The first session is scheduled for the 13th and will focus on the theme “Healthy snacks – Practical suggestions”.
The action, which will be led by nutritionist Débora Ganda, “is aimed at parents and their children, who will be made aware of the importance of reducing sugar in their daily diet and promoting and adopting healthier snacks, with a practical component through activities/games with children and parents. At the end, a small healthy snack will be offered to participants”.
On November 21st, the session “The Importance of Language and Communication in Pre-School Age” will take place, led by speech therapists Ana Alberto and Patrícia Coelho.
Also aimed at parents and children, the session “aims to clarify language development and identify warning signs in early childhood, highlighting the fundamental role of the family and school. There will also be a practical component with interactive games and activities”.
Registration for these two sessions, both limited to 25 participants, is now open and can be performed here.
The last session of the “Educating for a better future” cycle scheduled for this month will take place on November 27th, between 15:00 pm and 18:00 pm and also at the Municipal Library of Portimão, being a short-term training action aimed at teachers and specialized technicians, under the theme “Developmental disorders and learning difficulties”.
«Clinical psychologist Filipe Fernandes will be the trainer for this action, accredited by the Training Centre of the Portimão and Monchique Schools Association, which will introduce teaching staff to the main cognitive etiologies, from a neuropsychological perspective, for learning difficulties presented by school-age children», describes Portimão City Council.
Registration for this training action, limited to 50 participants, must be made on the website of the Training Center of the Association of Schools of Portimão and Monchique.
The cycle will resume at the beginning of 2025 and will continue until the end of the current academic year, “addressing other topics of special interest to the educational community of Portimão”.
