The documentary “Visões do Império”, by Joana Pontes, will be shown on November 14th, starting at 19 pm, at Armazém Regimental de Lagos.
Through the analysis of photographic records, «the documentary by the renowned researcher and director makes it possible to critically reexamine the History of Portugal and its former colonies, using photography as an indispensable object in this process of knowledge and reflection», says Lagos City Council.
The debate will be moderated by Débora Pinho Mateus, visual anthropologist, trainer, producer and programmer of FICLA – Algarve International Film and Literature Festival [2019 -2022] and member of the board of directors of Cineclube de Tavira.
The guests are Marta Lança, journalist, researcher, programmer and editor – regularly working on projects in the PALOP countries. She has researched post-colonial issues, memory disputes and knowledge production on collaborative platforms and Lúcia Furtado, one of the founders of Femafro – Association of Black, African and Afro-descendant Women in Portugal, where she serves as President of the Board of Directors. She was involved in the Campaign for a New Nationality Law, in the group that sought to collect ethnic-racial data in the 2021 census.
To complement the exhibition, there will also be a literary curation by Marta Lança and the Buala project – books chosen to frame, challenge and open new paths and awareness for these themes and which can be purchased at each session.
“Libertar a Memória” is a project promoted by O Corvo e a Raposa – Cultural Association, with the coordination and artistic direction of Luísa Baptista, supported by CCDR Algarve, IP, with the Municipality of Lagos, Museu de Lagos | Rota da Escravatura as a partner. It has the support of Cineclube de Faro, BUALA.org, Zer0 Museum and the A Internacional bookstore.
