The Parish Council of Albufeira and Olhos de Água will promote, on the 23rd of November, a training course in Basic Life Support for Adults.
The initiative, completely free of charge, takes place between 9:00 am and 13:00 pm, in the local authority building located in Olhos de Água.
The initiative will last four hours and is aimed at interested parties between the ages of 16 and 65. The session will be led by members of the Albufeira Volunteer Firefighters Training Centre, who will provide essential knowledge for dealing with emergencies.
In addition to the general public, the participation of athletes from Albufeira Surf Clube is already guaranteed, who, according to the Board, «during the winter play an extremely important role in the surveillance and safety of the municipality's beaches».
“With this training, these elements will be better able to respond to incidents outside the bathing season, when the beaches are not officially monitored but are still very busy”, says the Board.
Attending this workshop will enable the acquisition of skills to act in emergencies in everyday life, of acute illness and not only, in an approach that can save lives due to the speed of response while the victim waits for the arrival of specialized medical care.
In the case of a myocardial infarction, for example, the chances of survival decrease by about 10% for every minute that passes without any intervention to save the victim.
«These figures highlight the importance of increasingly training the population to intervene in cases where basic life support is necessary, creating a knowledge network that could make all the difference in life-threatening situations and also in situations that, although not life-threatening, require immediate intervention to prevent them from becoming more serious».
