The MotoGP Valencia Grand Prix, scheduled for November 15-17, was cancelled today due to the floods that hit that region of Spain and will be replaced by another race, which could even be in Portugal, namely in Portimão, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

In a statement, the promoters of the World Speed Championship announced the cancellation of what was supposed to be the last event of the season.

“After carefully weighing the positive impact that a MotoGP race could have in Valencia, albeit at a later date, versus the guarantee that not a single resource would be diverted from those in need by the presence of the championship, the organizers and local authorities have been forced to cancel the 2024 Valencia GP,” it reads.

Dorna, the company that promotes the World Speed Championship, which, in addition to MotoGP, includes the Moto2 and Moto3 categories, also announced that it will raise funds to help with the recovery of that Spanish region.

However, the idea of Dorna and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) will be to find an alternative location to hold the last race of the season, but has not yet confirmed either the new date or the location.

According to the Spanish press, Qatar, which hosts a Formula 1 GP on December 1, could be an alternative, as well as other circuits in the Iberian Peninsula, including the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), in Portimão.

This weekend, the penultimate round of the championship will take place in Sepang, Malaysia. With the Moto3 and Moto2 titles decided, the title of the main category, MotoGP, remains to be discussed.

Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati) is in the lead, 17 points ahead of Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). If the Madrid rider finishes the race with more than 37 points ahead of the Italian, he will mathematically secure the title.

Otherwise, the title will only be decided in the last race.

Riders such as Marc Márquez (Ducati) or 'Pecco' Bagnaia himself had shown themselves to be against the idea of racing in Valencia. The Italian even said that he would miss the race, even if it cost him the world title.
