A full week. This is what the Algarve Organ Festival promises, from 14 to 17 November, with eight initiatives, in Faro, Boliqueime, Loulé and Tavira.
This Thursday, the 14th, at 9:30 am, at the Sé Church, in Faro, there is an educational concert aimed at school-age children. Through the adventures of several characters and with André Ferreira on the organ, the story of more than 300 years of the Great Organ of the Cathedral of Faro.
In the afternoon, but already in Tavira, there will be a guided tour by master organ builder Dinarte Machado of the interior of the pipe organs, with sound notes by organist André Ferreira.
The initiative starts at 18pm at the Church of Santiago and ends at the Church of Misericórdia, with registration/information for the contacts 00 916 782 and [email protected]
On Friday, the 15th, at the Parish Church of Boliqueime, organist Tiago Ferreira and trumpeter Rúben Castro present a chamber music program that crosses different musical eras.
On the same day, at the Church of Misericórdia in Tavira, organist Rute Magalhães joins Alexandra Camboa (violin) for a program of Italian, German, Portuguese and French pieces from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
On Saturday, the 16th, at 10:00 am, there will be an organ masterclass by Tiago Ferreira and a trumpet masterclass by Rúben Castro, both at the Loulé Music Conservatory – Francisco Rosado (registration/information: 916 782 780, [email protected]).
That night, at the Carmo Church in Faro, organist Rute Magalhães and violinist Alexandra Camboa come together again to present a new programme of instrumental chamber music, this time entirely dedicated to Bach.
On Sunday, the 17th, it will take place at 15 pm at the Sé Church, in Faro, the usual concert by students of the Sé Organ School of Faro. This time, guests will also appear on the line-up who will treat us to pieces accompanied by the Organ.
Also that afternoon, at 18:00 pm, a unique concert will take place at the Igreja Matriz de Loulé, with Tiago Ferreira (positive organ) and the Orquestra Barroca D'Aquém Mar. Three concertos for organ and orchestra will be performed by composers Brixi, Haydn and Handel.
Concerts in churches are free of charge and do not require prior reservation.
Participation in the photography competition, held in partnership with the ALFA Association and UAlg/ESEC and supported by FNAC and the Hotel, is also open until November 24th. Faro.
The Algarve International Organ Festival 2024 is supported by the CCDR Algarve – Culture Unit, of the Municipalities of Faro, Loulé, Portimão, Tavira, Lagoa and Lagos and the Union of Parishes of Faro, with support for the promotion of the Algarve Tourism Region, with communication partners Antena 2, Sul Informação and Rua FM and with the Hotel accommodation partner Faro.
