On 1 November, Ferragudo celebrated its elevation to the status of town with tributes to poets and mayors who are part of its history.

The ceremony included the usual flag raising, in the presence of the CNE Agrupamento 413 Marítimos de Ferragudo, as well as the executive of the Parish Council and the president and councilor for culture of the Lagoa Council.

In the afternoon, the “Talking with our Poets”, which featured nine of the twelve invited poets and prose writers.

Before this exhibition of poetic imagination, the president of the parish council said a few words about the tribute to poets and prose writers from the town and also noted the development as well as the need for rent-controlled housing for families.

The mayor also stressed that more is needed parking, the requalification of the fishing community's shelters, a new extension of the health center, as well as the headquarters of the Ferragudo scouts, projects that have already been budgeted and are awaiting implementation on the ground.

«In addition to preserving Ferragudo's architectural features, it is necessary to increase mobility and, above all, to requalify the downtown area, starting with adapting the Ferragudo canal to current needs, requalifying and opening the “small arches” of the old bridge in order to prevent damage that may occur, whether due to high tides or bad weather, in this world of climate change», stressed Luis Alberto.

Finally, the mayor defended the creation of a civil protection center in the parish in order to prevent future disasters, as well as at the heritage and cultural level, stressing that it is important to create a museum and archaeological center in the town focused on the economic and social history of the Arade river.

After the gathering, commemorative plaques were presented to its participants, to the former presidents of the Assembly and Parish Council, to the parish employees and associations, as well as a simple tribute to the late mayor of the parish council and municipal assembly, Carlos Alvo.
