Farense suffered their eighth defeat in the I Liga football league today, losing 2-1 to Benfica at the Estádio Algarve, in a game in the 10th round of the competition in which they were in the lead, but allowed the “encarnados” to turn the match around.

At Farense's home, the “bottom of the table” in the championship, for the games with the three “big” teams, Darío Poveda put the Algarve team ahead in the 15th minute, but Carreras equalized in the 21st minute, and Pavlidis sealed the comeback in the 54th minute.

Farense started the match with four changes compared to the eleven that had played in the defeat in Braga – Marco Moreno, Paulo Victor, Elves Baldé and Dario Poveda were starters – but returned to a “5x4x1” position, setting the tone for a defensive strategy.

The Algarve team recognised the power of their opponent, with a tactic of containment and betting on transitions, and, after the first quarter of an hour, in a well-designed collective play on the right by Miguel Menino and Pastor, the full-back crossed for the right-footed finish of the Spaniard Darío Poveda, who scored his first goal in the championship.

Farense only managed to hold on to their advantage for six minutes: in the 21st minute, Aktürkoglu dragged the opposing defenders to the edge of the area and, with space open on the left, served a precise shot from full-back Carreras, between Ricardo Velho and the nearest post.

The “red” team kept pushing the team led by Tozé Marreco into the final third, but without creating any clear chances, until the restart of the game brought more excitement.

In the same minute, at 49, Ricardo Velho made the save of the night, from a shot by Pavlidis, while Poveda incredibly missed a brace, and at 54, Benfica turned the result around, through Pavlidis, after a combination between Di Maria and Aktürkoglu.

At a disadvantage, Tozé Marreco made a triple substitution, looking for more attacking inspiration, but Benfica did not allow Farense to have any great chances, who only threatened in stoppage time, when Cuba, under pressure from Carreras, was unable to finish a dangerous counterattack.

The team from the Algarve capital remains in 18th and last place, with four points. In the 11th round, they travel to Casa Pia, in a match scheduled for Saturday, November 9, at 15:30 pm.
