Castro Marim's western entrance to be refurbished

The aim of this work is to create conditions of environmental comfort and social interaction, resulting in a pleasant space.

The western entrance to the town of Castro Marim will undergo a renovation project, the first phase of which will begin in the coming weeks.

«This first phase will begin with the felling of existing trees, as the current ones are causing damage to nearby residential and commercial buildings and the water supply network, due to the uncontrolled growth of roots», says Castro Marim City Council.

The water supply network that is damaged due to these trees will be replaced, with the space also being temporarily repaired so that it can be enjoyed during this period with peace of mind.

In a second phase, after the work is put out to tender, a completely flat area will be created, with no divisions between the sidewalks and the traffic lanes, which will be widened and will accommodate limiting bollards that separate the pedestrian area from the road.

The same street will now only have a single direction, from east to west, thus enhancing pedestrian use and circulation, also ensuring the safety of pedestrians.

These areas will also include leisure spaces, as well as framing and protection areas, with benches, flowerbeds, planters and new species of trees to provide shade.

The area of the statue in homage to the Overseas Fighters will also be enhanced with a new setting of surrounding vegetation.

The species were chosen based on their adaptation to the region's climatic conditions and their low water consumption.

The space will also have an automatic and efficient irrigation system for all planted areas, carried out in a localized manner using self-compensating drippers, with an automatic system that prevents watering during rainy periods.

The aim of this work is to create conditions of environmental comfort and social interaction, resulting in a pleasant space.
