Armacenenses and Guia, from the II District Division, staged the first surprises of the Algarve Football Cup this Wednesday, November 6, when they eliminated, after penalty shootouts, Esp. Lagos and 11 Esperanças, from the Algarve's first division.
In games without resorting to extra time, in Lagos, Esperança and Armacenenses drew goalless after 90 minutes, with the Armação de Pêra team prevailing on penalties by 4-3, while in Faro Guia beat 11 Esperanças 7-6 in the penalty shootout, after an emotional 3-3 in regular time.
In a clash between teams from the District I Division, Odiáxere surprised Portimonense, who had six wins in six league games, defeating the “alvinegros” 4-2 on penalties at home, after a 90-XNUMX draw in the XNUMX minutes.
On Wednesday, five more teams from the Algarve Football League progressed: Imortal (4-0 home win against Carvoeiro United), Ferreiras (3-1 away to Faro and Benfica), Olhanense 1912 (3-1 at Padernense), Silves (3-1 away to Algarvense) and Culatrense (6-0 at home to Mentes do Desporto).
In the next round, there will also be the secondary teams Campinense (won 2-1 at Messinense), Quarteira (3-1 at Marítimo Olhanense) and Sambrasense (4-0 at home against Alvorense).
The first round of the Algarve Football Cup will conclude on November 13th, with the matches Bensafrim-4 ao Cubo and Quarteirense-Lusitano VRSA.
