the district of Faro will be under an orange warning this morning due to the forecast of showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, announced today the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
In a statement, IPMA said that the orange warning will be in effect in the district of Faro until 12:00, and then replaced by a yellow warning, at least until 00:00 on Saturday.
The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a moderate to high risk meteorological situation.
The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.
The districts of Évora, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre are also currently under a yellow warning, which will be in force throughout today, due to the rain.
In the case of the Setúbal district, the yellow warning will come into effect at 12:00 today.
Hours earlier, the IPMA had already extended the yellow warning issued for the nine islands of the Azores archipelago, due to forecasts of “sometimes heavy” rain.
