“Elviro da Rocha Gomes” Literary Competition is accepting entries until the end of the month

The competition includes three categories

The Union of Parishes of Faro has launched another “Elviro da Rocha Gomes” Literary Competition and is accepting entries until November 30th.

The objective is to “encourage creativity and literary expression, promoting the enrichment of the Portuguese language in prose and poetry”.

According to Bruno Lage, president of this Union of Parishes, the competition, which is in its 6th edition, «aims not only to value literary talent, but also to pay tribute to the memory of the writer, poet and professor Elviro da Rocha Gomes».

A prominent figure in Faro's culture, Elviro da Rocha Gomes was a passionate defender of Algarve culture, having contributed to its development as director of the Algarve Cultural Circle and contributor to several regional newspapers.

National and foreign writers can participate in the competition, as long as the works are written in Portuguese.

The competition includes three categories – adult, youth and juvenile – for both poetry and prose.

Interested parties can consult the complete regulations on the website of the Union of Parishes of Faro.
