Loulé City Council and ASMAL – Algarve Mental Health Association signed this Thursday, October 31, a partnership protocol for the “Capacity for Inclusion” project, which aims to help integrate people with mental illness into the community.
The objective is to promote “access to social services and measures and social inclusion, particularly in the job market”, explains Loulé City Council.
According to the signed document, it is up to ASMAL to define the activities to be developed by the person with mental illness, as well as to evaluate the candidate in the personal, social, vocational and professional spheres, with the aim of identifying potential, interests, motivations, limitations and difficulties, to subsequently define interventions appropriate to the identified profile for future socio-professional integration.
On the other hand, it is the responsibility of this IPSS to support people with mental illness in making an informed choice of their professional path, in accordance with their personal characteristics and expectations, improving their skills and qualifications and enhancing their employability.
On the part of the Municipality, municipal technicians will be responsible for identifying and referring people with mental illness who need professional rehabilitation to improve their skills for their professional and social inclusion. It is also the Municipality that will ensure social care and support for these citizens.
Vítor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé, was very pleased with the signing of this protocol that will reinforce the professional and social inclusion of people with mental illness.
“The municipality of Loulé is pleased to be able to be useful in the development of policies that aim to respond to the needs of people with mental illness, especially since it is fully aware that mental illness is the poor relative of the medical care provided to the community. It is a gesture and a measure that contributes greatly to social inclusion, and so the objective of the protocol can only deserve great praise and support from the Municipality of Loulé”, he says.
Founded in 1991, ASMAL is headquartered in Loulé, but operates throughout the region. It provides services to promote mental health through education, training, support and social/professional integration of its target audiences.
