«Bring sneakers, because there will be a lot of dancing, a lot of rhythm and good vibe». The advice and the promise are from the Calema family, who head the New Year's Eve poster in Monte Gordo, a party that takes place between December 28th and the early hours of January 1st and also includes performances by Maninho and Danni Gato.

Vila Real de Santo António Council (VRSA) has invested heavily in its programming for the last days of 2024, with the “aim of having the best New Year's Eve in the Algarve”.

“What we want is to attract a lot of people, a lot of families, so that all the hotels and restaurants are full and the shops are very busy”, summed up Álvaro Araújo, president of the VRSA Chamber, on the sidelines of the presentation of the event, which was also attended by Calema and the Algarve band Danni Gato.

“We want our economy to move forward and continue with low unemployment levels, as we have achieved. Today, there is no difference between the low season and the high season at this level. Just look at the unemployment figures over the years,” he added.

Brothers António and Fradique Mendes Ferreira, from Calema, have assured that it will be, “for sure, an unforgettable night”, with a mix of musical styles, including pop, R&B, and African influences.

“The first time we were here we were very well received, we felt at home. It is always a pleasure to come back. We hope to have an incredible night, here with the people, with lots of dancing, lots of music and lots of energy, to start 2025 in the best possible way”, explained António Mendes Ferreira.

The duo, whose name refers to the special waves of the African coast, will perform their greatest hits, including the songs “A Nossa Vez” and “Te Amo”.

The São Tomé brothers will begin performing in the first minutes of 2025, after the traditional fireworks display, which will mark the farewell to 2024 and the beginning of the new year.

the party of New Year's Eve will have free entry, like all performances scheduled for Monte Gordo, at the end of this year.

The program will begin on December 28th, with a performance by Maninho, “a singer and composer who has stood out on the national scene with his unique and engaging approach to pop and Lusophone music”, according to the VRSA Chamber.

The Brazilian artist was not present in Monte Gordo, at the presentation of the event, but left an ambitious video message: «You can be sure that it will be the best New Year's Eve ever in the Algarve».

On the first night, Galopim and DJ Miax will also perform.

On the 29th, a Sunday, the night will be livened up by the “homegrown talent”, namely Sugaland and DJ Karussa.

On Monday, December 30th, the highlight was the Algarve DJ Danni Gato, who was happy to return “home” and perform in Monte Gordo. On the same day, the Samba da Malta project takes to the stage.

On the last day of the year, even before the fireworks and the performance by Calema, entertainment will be provided by Duo Reflexo and the “Time Travel” project, with Possessivo and DJ Karussa.

To secure this poster, Vila Real de Santo António Council had to loosen its purse strings.

"It is a strong investment, thanks to the tourist tax, because otherwise we would not be able to do it, because the municipality's financial situation is very serious. This poster has been in the works for over a year," revealed Álvaro Araújo.

“I think that everything is here to ensure that we have a great party and great success”, concluded the president of the VRSA Chamber.
