Algarve firefighters regret delays in responding to INEM calls

«The Algarve Firefighters are unaware of these failures and continue to ensure the response to calls for pre-hospital assistance», states the association

The Algarve Firefighters Federation regretted this Friday, November 8, the delay in responding to emergency calls by CODU/INEM, which has caused delays in providing assistance to population of the region and the rest of the country.

«The Algarve Firefighters are unaware of these failures and continue to ensure the response to calls for pre-hospital assistance, whenever they are aware of the occurrences», reads the federation's note, which notes «with deep regret the deaths recorded, in the space of a week, due to these failures in INEM's response capacity, in answering calls».

The federation also praises the decision, taken early Thursday evening, by the Union of Pre-Hospital Emergency Technicians (STEPH), to suspend the strike by INEM emergency medical technicians, which began on October 30.

«In addition to the already widely publicized lack of Emergency Medical Technicians in the CODU, it should be noted that, in the Algarve, there are occasionally stretchers retained in Hospital Centers, inter-hospital transfers of patients using ambulances from the Medical Emergency Posts (PEM). Another situation, also glaring, is the dispatch of resources to other municipalities, increasing the time it takes to assist the populations», they highlight.

The Federation also appeals to the authorities and INEM so that, together, we can seek a quick solution to these situations.
